I am not a professional and I was nervous about changing out the wax ring in my toilet. I watched some online videos to make sure I knew what to do and potential pitfalls. I have an elongated Toto toilet. I was able to pull out the toilet, remove the old wax ring using a disposable plastic knife, and put in this new wax ring in less than an hour. I was not able to use the bolts that came with this set because it was too large to fit in my flange, so I ended up using the original bolts, which were perfectly fine and made for my toilet. I was surprised that it was relatively easy to install. The only tricky part was getting the toilet back in place without sliding the toilet on the tiles. Basically, I had to carry a large heavy object in a small tight area and plop it right on top of a small circle blindly on the first try, otherwise it ends up smashing the wax ring….easier said than done. I got lucky, and I think I hit the circle pretty close on the first try. I only had to shift it slightly to get it in the correct spot. This wax ring comes with a rubber plastic over the wax part, so you can move it without ruining the wax seal. I am happy that I have no more leaking under the toilet. You can pat yourself on the back after it’s finished, just like I did.No more worrying if the toilet landed true on the wax ring. Certainty that a leak will not be quietly damaging the subfloor. I’ll never buy the old un-contained wax ring ever again. No more having to buy extra rings just in case I needed to reposition the toilet alignment, which happens easily since it’s not a frequent task. Worth the extra $ so I can reposition safely and such a better attachment bolt design. My contact for a local plumber gave me a promise to call with a time he'd come. He never called, so I decided to do it myself. This part seemed to take the guesswork out of the "Wax ring" complexity. Aside from me being over 70 years old, and having been blown off by by that plumber (I hope he's reading this), I did it myself, and saved big bucks.Re-setting a 30yo toilet on a tiled floor so flange is 1/2"+ below floor. Instructions LOOKED okay but as I went along I realized they were substandard. Luckily this is not my first toilet setting job so I knew what had to happen.First head scratcher was the brass T nuts... at first they didn't appear to fit my flange. But then I saw the threaded portions were ground down on twp sides on each nut. However, they weren't ground down on the correct sides... had I used them as-is, they might've pulled out of the plastic flange. So I filed the threads down 90 degrees from the factory-ground sides, and I got the T nuts in properly.Second head scratcher, as others mentioned, was how the ring is supposed to slide over the gray plastic nuts holding the T nuts in place. There is nothing in the instructions about using the larger opposing holes. In hindsight, it seems obvious, but when you're using this for the first time and don't want to screw up, it's not so obvious... especially when they don't tell you.Third head scratcher (starting to lose hair...): how to keep the brass bolt extensions from falling under the flange when you're trying to install them. As I mentioned, my flange is below the surface, so I had to use the supplied extensions. But I didn't want to lose my grip on them as I was trying to fish them down onto the T nuts. Threading them together with the SS bolts and fishing them down onto the T nuts was OK, but the extensions didn't want to stay seated when I removed the SS bolts. Crap. So I got my Dremel out and ground a slot into the top of each brass extension and used a wide thin screwdriver to snug them up once I got them fished down into place. Luckily I didn't lose them under the toilet!Fourth head scratcher was not a surprise - I saw it coming. You're supposed to use the plastic clips to hand tighten the SS bolts holding the toilet down. That's fine in a perfect world... maybe. But I don't think you can get them quite tight enough. I got them as tight as I could with my hands (ouch) and avoided using tools like they said, but I would've liked to get them a little tighter. If the toilet budges, I'll go to Plan B and use a washer and tools to snug them a little more. But I don't think it will move... I used an adhesive caulk around 90% of the base so it should be OK. Then more head scratching when it was time to pop the caps over the plastic clips... I guess I get the clips so tight even with just my hands that there wasn't enough room for the plastic cap to stay on the clip. So they're just sitting there. Great. As I finished up, I thought about all the extra time and work required, and I realized that I might have been better off with a couple wax rings... always keep a back-up, right? As another reviewer noted, this thing still contains wax, and I felt it squeeze out as I firmly pushed the toilet in place, so I'm not sure how great the seal would be if I had to take the toilet up again... like if I had dropped one of those evil brass bolt extensions. Thus the three stars... it's OK, and might've gotten four stars with better directions and some "user-friendlier" parts, but I think next time I'll just go with a good old wax ring. Or two. And maybe the T nuts, modified like I did... they'd be handy in a regular install, especially if you have 1/4" SS bolts in various sizes to accommodate different flange heights which would eliminate the need for the awkward extensions.Easy install, quality parts, installation options for different circumstances. Good instructions easy to navigate. Recommended. Did the job for me.Great value. DIY'r scale 1-10. Depends on your toilet style and installation type. I'd rate 5I used only the mounting hardware from this kit, but having set a toilet or two, I can say it was the easiest install ever. For those confused about the "wrenchless" tightening method, the kit includes a flat piece of rigid plastic that slips between the the stainless bolt and the toilet base. This plastic piece is slotted allowing it to grip the head of the bolt and is large enough for the user to easily grip it to tighten. The entire plastic piece is wide enough to serve as a washer to distribute the bolt's clamping force, and it also serves as the base for the low-profile caps that cover the bolts. Quick and easy; just the way I like it.My only complaint: I wish the plastic wrench/washer was larger in diameter. This is due to the plastic wrench/washer having a tendency to slip off-center if the slots on your toilet's base for the mounting bolts are relatively wide. This doesn't affect the toilet's mounting integrity, but it will make it impossible to fit the decorative cap over the bolt. I got around this by making sure the plastic wrench/washer was centered before final tightening, then installing the decorative cap and tightening the cap and the bolt together. The perfect seal wax ring by Danco is supposed to work with above ground toilet flanges. However, upon installation (without the two rings as advised), the toilet would not rest on the floor and would rock. When the toilet was removed, the wax ring had been compressed to the maximum possible with the wax being forced into the drain pipe as others have noted. I had to scrape off the ring which means it is totally not reuseable or returnable. I bought a regular wax ring and installed it with no problems.I have to give credit to the Zero Cut bolts - they worked amazing well as advertised. Next time, I would buy only the bolts to use with a regular wax ring. This product delivers what it's being advertized for. It is reusable and can be forgiving if not aligned properly as it can be re-aligned during installation process. The wax seals into the flange and the rubber portion seals the toilet outlet which is better than set-rite I used in my other toilet with the same issue with flange being below the floor level.I highly recommend this product as this is cheaper. Just make sure you read and follow the installation instruction closely both from the instruction guide that comes with it and online.Used in a bathroom renovation prior to selling home so not sure about longevity.Installed easily, and instructions are easy to follow.Sealed fine and was able to accommodate the toilet flange heigh given that there was a subfloor and vinyl tile raising the toilet.Everything you need is in the box.Excellent product for very good price. The best and easiest way to install a toilet. It was very easy. If I ever have to replace another toilet, I will buy this product for sure.Only one recommendation; please add longer screws. I had to get longer screws for my toilet; it was too deep. Other than that I really recommend this product.
