A Hex Head Cap Screw made from medium carbon steel and heat-treated (Quenched and Tempered). Grade 5 steel construction offers strength and moderate flexibility. The bolts are hardened, yet more malleable than Grade 8, allowing them to withstand shear force. These Grade-5 Hexagonal Head Cap Screws have greater tensile strength than Grade-2 bolts. Hex Head Screws are screws are stronger than stainless steel. Made from Grade 5 steel, these screws are suitable for fastening most machinery and equipment. Dimensions meet ASME B18.2.1 specifications. Grade 5 steel hex head screws are marked with three radial lines. Length is measured from under the head. Match the thread spacing of mating components. Coarse threads are the industry standard; choose these screws if you don’t know the threads per inch. Fine and extra-fine threads are closely spaced to prevent loosening from vibration; the finer the thread, the better the resistance. The hex head cap screw is a common fastener in construction and machine assembly. The screw head is designed to fit a ratchet or spanner torque wrenches allowing you to tighten the screw to your exact specifications. Hex head cap screws are typically used to create a bolted joint, in which a threaded shaft exactly fits a corresponding tapped hole or nut. One advantage cap screw fasteners have over welds or rivets is that they allow for easy disassembly for repairs and maintenance.
